More and more I've noticed that many good, Christian kids are interested in strange, dark, and "gothic" books, movies, comics, and clothes. I myself am included. I admit, I think vampires rock, black is the greatest color, and the Aliens movies are timeless. I don't really see what's to be ashamed of though. I mean, the bible is full of awesome and gory battles . . . Now, there's a difference between Devil Worship and what I'm talking about. People who like dark things aren't Satanic. We just have different interests than most people. But I don't really know, maybe God frowns upon this, maybe he doesn't.

Well, I guess that the concern is not so much in the material, but the intent. Guess you have to ask yourself why these things appeal to you.
I mean if its just a rebellion against the normal state of things, then thats just, well, normal.
Also, everybody loves the Aliens Movies.
Even the Amish.

Well said. I think a lot of people like it simply because it's rebellious. But there's other (I like to think that I'm included in this) that just like it. It's like . . . people that like Football, there's not any specific reason why they like it, it just happens to interest them.
((Nice avatar, by the way))

You guys are just odd people, there's nothing wrong with liking football....I love football, and that's probably because I was exposed to it while I was a child, but I wasn't forced upon it. What about my liking of Alienware...I swear I'm weirdly obsessed with it, you should have seen me in computers today. And what about my liking-ness of Theraflu? I think that needs to have a reason. I love theraflu! I'm drinking it right now....I have cheetos! yay! random...your going to delete this again....I know you are, because you hate me! Vampires are amazing, but they can't be overly gross and stupid....I like my vampires...they're happy. Talk about gothicy clothing, you should see my new shirt! I love it. but it just looks gothicy, it's not really gothic....yeah....I'm done...

Well, I don't know if I buy that. Everyone has a reason that they like something, even if it is stupid. A good example of this is why people like superheroes. You can't realistically be one, and there are men and women of far greater courage in the bible and even in real life, but people love them nonetheless. Including myself. They aren't the best role models either. But I like em' anyway.
Hmm....
You actually have a good point. I also like transformers for no apparent reason.
Weird.

Elizabeth, I didn't say that liking football (or anything else that you mentioned) is bad. I'm just saying that sometimes people don't have reasons for liking things.
So, basically what I'm getting at here is that I don't think God will smite us with a rod of lightening or anything if we like things that are dark, nerdy, or totally whack. Even though some of the things we are interested in aren't exactly Christian (like Egyptian Mythology, which I find interesting) as long as we don't take them so seriously that it becomes obsession, and as long as it's something that isn't feeding sinful thoughts into our heads, I think it's probably fine. But, I don't know.
Hey Nick, do you know of any verses that might assist us?

This is a verse that I find useful in any situation where hobbies and interests are disputed. If it follows this biblical guideline, I say God bless it.
Philippians 4:8, TLB. "Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.
But you also should not get involved in something so much, Like you said that it begins to fill God's place in your life.
Matthew 6:24, NIV. "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other..."
It is on the razors edge that many Christians believe that they are safe on, but many fail to realize that they are already cut.
Hope that helps.

Yeah, like we've talked about before, there's a fine line between interest and obsession.

it is hunting season right now. and to some extent i have many free moments thinking of hunting. obcession?, i don't think so... but, it does fill my mind of many pleasant thoughts. while i am hunting i often think of just how wounderful nature is and feel awe struck at gods glory and the many things he has given us.
happy hunting and enjoy gods majesty!!!
